8chanを支える[[プログラム]]「インフィニティ・ソフトウェア」には数多くの[[バグ]]があり、「インフィニティネクスト」と呼ばれる後継プラットフォームの開発と資金調達が行われた。インフィニティネクストは数か月にわたるテスト期間の後、2015年12月に移行が試みられたものの失敗に終わった<ref>{{Cite web|title=qt2ww - Ghostbin|url=http://archive.is/kj7ks|website=archive.is|date=2015-12-19|accessdate=2019-04-29}}</ref>。インフィニティネクストは2016年1月に開発が中止され、主要な開発者であるジョシュア・ムーン氏がブレナンによって解雇された<ref>{{Cite web|title=Suspended|url=https://medium.com/suspended|website=Medium|accessdate=2019-04-29}}</ref>。ブレナン自身も2016年7月に正式に辞任した。ブレナンはその理由として「インフィニティネクスト」プロジェクトの失敗と8chanへの幻滅を挙げた。
