2019年8月6日午前0時（米国時間）、8chan掲示板は閲覧できなくなった[14]。これは数日前に発生した銃乱射事件をうけ、Cloudflareから一方的に締め出されたためである。 CloudflareのCEOは8chanを「ヘイトの汚水溜め」と表現した。

2019年3月15日にニュージーランドのクライストチャーチで発生したクライストチャーチモスク銃乱射事件の直前に、犯人が攻撃の動機を記述したマニフェストを8chanに投稿した[16][17][18]。犯人は襲撃の直前にライブストリーム動画へのリンクを8chanに投稿し、利用者はその動画を拡散させた[19]。
